From a couple returning from a dinner to someone who was going out to meet his friends, the victims of Sunday's Yuen Long attacks have recounted their horror stories when they were set upon by a gang of armed men and their helplessness as police failed to turned up despite their pleas.
One of the victims, surnamed Hui, said she and her husband were returning home after having dinner in Tsuen Wan when the train they were on got stuck at the Yuen Long platform and the attacks happened.
With tears flowing, Hui recounted how other passengers had to protect her because she was wearing black.
"All of us are innocent. I don't think any of us have a strong political stance, some of them are just children! They were crying before the white-clad men rushed in! What would you have us do?, she asked. "No one helped us then."
Also on that train was Mr Kwok, and his sons aged 14 and 10. They were returning from visiting a friend in Ma Wan, and were trapped on the platform for around 30 minutes.
The two families said they were traumatised by the attacks but were relatively unscathed.
Others weren't so lucky though.
A Mr Leung said he was heading to Yuen Long for drinks with some friends when he was confronted at the station by the group of men in white, who were throwing objects and beating passengers.
He got hit on the back of his head as he was helping a fellow passenger escape. Not a single police officer was present at the time, he said.
The train passengers injured during the attack said they will seek compensation from the MTR, and want the culprits – and the police – to be held accountable.
Democratic Party lawmaker Lam Cheuk-ting – who was also injured during the incident – said he was in touch with lawyers over this.
Lam also said he believes the attack was organised by people in power and said authoritarian regimes use these kind of "black forces" to suppress people.
A total of 45 people were treated in hospital after the attacks on Sunday. As of Tuesday night, five of them still remained in hospital, with one listed as being in a critical condition and one as seriously hurt.
