China CITIC Bank International (CNCBI) has appointed Wang Junwei as its Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, subject to regulatory approval.

He will succeed Shen Qiang, who has resigned from the roles due to work arrangements but will remain on the bank’s board as a Non-Executive Director.

Pending regulatory approval, Jeffery Bai, Executive Director, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Head of the Wholesale Banking Group, will assume the Chief Executive Officer’s responsibilities on an interim basis.

Wang joins the role after a long career at CNCBI’s parent company, China CITIC Bank Corporation Limited, most recently serving as President of its Ningbo Branch.

He has held leadership positions spanning corporate governance, capital operations, market capitalisation management, financial management and balance sheet management across the bank’s headquarters and branch network.

Shen has served as CNCBI’s Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer since December 2024.

During his tenure, the bank achieved record highs in operating income and net profit, expanded its asset and liability base, reduced its non-performing loan ratio and volume, and strengthened its brand and competitiveness.

The board expects Wang to accelerate the bank’s transformation and deepen collaboration with the CITIC Group and China CITIC Bank.
