  • Two more areas beefed up against flooding

Officials say the Wong Tai Sin and San Po Kong areas will be able to withstand major downpours without flooding from this rainy season onwards.

This comes as officials said that HK$3 billion improvement works along the Kai Tak Nullah are now almost complete.

The Director of the Drainage Services Department, Edwin Tong, says the 2.4-kilometre long nullah is a major floodwater drainage channel for East Kowloon, but up until now it just couldn't cope with all the water it gets.

He said work on two other areas – in Wan Chai and Tai Po – have been completed, but these places are being monitored for two years before they can be declared to be flood-risk free.

Tong said work in other spots, in Yuen Long, Pok Fu Lam and Tsim Sha Tsui, are still going on.
