The Town Planning Board has rejected opposition to a Vocational Training Council campus on the Waterfront at Cha Kwo Ling. Local residents had objected to the VTC building, saying they had been promised a park as part of the Kai Tak Development.
In a statement, the Town Planning Board said the proposed VTC campus would serve the young people of Hong Kong and would therefore add to the vibrancy and diversity of the waterfront. It said there would be sufficient open space even with the building.
But it did recognise the public's wish for an accessible and well-designed waterfront, saying there could be some road realignment.
The board also called on the government to liaise with the VTC over the building's design. It said they could explore ways of changing it to improve integration with the waterfront. And it called on the government to ask the VTC to consult the District Council, the Harbourfront Commission, the local community and the board itself before the scheme is finalised.
Local residents say this location is the only chance to build a park on Victoria Harbour's waterfront.
