Pro-government lawmaker Tony Tse on Wednesday called on the Chief Executive to make Justice Secretary Teresa Cheng explain in detail about the illegal structures found at her homes and what steps she has taken over them.
Tse, the newly elected architectural, surveying, planning and landscape representative in the Legislative Council, raised the subject of Cheng's illegal structures when Lam appeared for her question-and-answer session in Legco.
Buildings Department inspectors had found that Cheng's properties contain multiple unauthorised extensions, including rooftop structures and basements.
Lam insisted that Cheng had made repeated explanations about her illegal structures, and the Buildings Department is dealing with her cases just like any other.
She said the government is going to abide by the law, adding that Cheng is a responsible person, willing to shoulder her responsibility.
The Chief Executive also said her efforts during her tenure as development secretary were effective in reducing the number of unauthorised structures across the SAR.
Speaking after the Legco session, Tse said he was unhappy with Lam's response about the illegal structures found at the justice minister's homes.
He also accused Lam of downplaying the severity of the unauthorised structure issue in Hong Kong overall, and said there should be more manpower to deal with the problem.
Tse vowed to follow up on the issues.
