About 50 activists have staged protests at Maxim's restaurants in Central, again urging the caterer to end the sales of shark fin at their outlets.

The organisers of the protests, WildAid Hong Kong, said campaigners staged this latest action at two Maxim's restaurants after the company failed to respond to their concerns.

"We sent a letter in February explaining all the reasons why shark fin is unsustainable, but they won't reply." said campaigner Alex Hofford.

"In fact, [they did] the opposite. Maxim's conducted a 'greenwashing' exercise with some Hong Kong Federation of Business students to pretend that they are green – but they are not green, they're the biggest greenwashers in Hong Kong."

Hofford added that Maxim's had told them that eating shark fin is a tradition, but he says this shouldn't be used as justification to continue doing so.

Maxim's says they offer shark fin dishes as a choice for customers and they choose sharks that are under considered less threatened.
