Officials have agreed to allow emergency services from Hong Kong, Macau and Zhuhai to cross into each other's sections of the bridge linking the three places, if help is needed to deal with any incidents, RTHK has learnt.

Sources said that when it comes to rescue work on the bridge, the three places will generally look after their own sections. But if it makes operational sense for emergency personnel from a different jurisdiction to take the lead or help out, exceptions will be made.

If a victim of an accident is picked up by a Hong Kong ambulance anywhere on the bridge, he or she will be brought back to the territory for treatment, the sources said.

Ahead of the bridge's opening, a new fire station opened on Thursday on an artificial island near Hong Kong airport. It is thought that around 100 firefighters are based there.

No date has been announced for the bridge's opening yet, but it is expected to be up and running by the end of the year.

One of the bus companies planning to use the bridge said on Thursday that it will charge between HK$170 and HK$190 for a trip to Macau, depending on the time of day.

It said it will take an hour and 45 minutes, with that service setting off from a shopping mall in Kwun Tong.
