The police watchdog said on Tuesday that it is still looking into a journalist's claim that he was beaten up by officers during the Mong Kok riot two years ago, despite a report to the contrary.

The reporter claims he was dragged from a vehicle by a number of officers, held on the ground, and assaulted.

The Ming Pao newspaper reported two weeks ago that the Independent Police Complaints Council (IPCC) has concluded that the case can't be fully substantiated.

But Larry Kwok, chairman of the IPCC, said that's not true. He said he couldn't say any more at the moment because the complaint is still under review.

Kwok said it's taking the body some time to look into the matter because it only received a report from the police several months ago, and members need to raise queries and wait for the force's replies.
