The public is being urged not to drink two batches of Stella Artois bottled beer imported from Belgium which may contain glass particles.

The Centre for Food Safety on Tuesday called on the industry to also stop selling them immediately.

It said the drinks in question have 'best before' dates of September 15 and 16 2018, and the package code is 55.

A centre spokesman said the problem came to its attention after seeing a notice from a government food safety agency in Canada.

He said 2,160 cartons of the affected batches of beer were imported and had all been distributed.

The drinks are being taken off retailers' shelves and a recall has been ordered.
