Around a dozen members of the League of Social Democrats (LSD) held a demonstration outside the government's headquarters on Thursday demanding the resignation of Justice Secretary Teresa Cheng and the prosecution of former Chief Executive CY Leung.

The Department of Justice recently denied reports that it has decided not to bring Leung to court over the HK$50 million he received in 2012 from Australian firm UGL. Concerns have been raised about a possible conflict of interest, as well as the fact that Leung had not declared the payment.

The protesters demanded that action be taken against the former CE, but said Cheng is in no position to make a decision on the matter being as she is embroiled in a controversy of her own, over a series of illegal structures at her properties in the city.

LSD founder Leung Kwok-hung said Cheng must now step down, describing her as the "secretary of injustice".

"If [Chief Executive] Carrie Lam is always talking about the rule of law and justice in Hong Kong, I think the first thing she needs to do is ask Teresa Cheng to resign from her post," the disqualified lawmaker said.

The demonstrators also urged Financial Secretary Paul Chan to announce a universal pension scheme in his budget speech next Wednesday. They said the administration is flooded with cash and there is no better time to set up a fund to support the elderly.
