Lawmaker Junius Ho on Thursday called for a number of pan-democratic legislators to be disqualified from office due to their filibustering of the council, while a fellow member of the pro-Beijing camp went further by suggesting a national security law investigation could be in order.
Ho said he was writing to Chief Executive Carrie Lam to ask her to launch action to disqualify some of the pan-dems for their quorum calls during meetings, singling out the Democratic Party's Ted Hui in particular.
Ho added that he believes members of the opposition camp have breached their oath of office with their "shameful" behaviour.
"How do I see their action violating the oath? Of course, it's a serious one. I treat it very seriously. Actually, every minute that matters, every minute that counts, they are spending and burning the money of Hong Kong taxpayers," he said.
"They are wasting all the chances and all the time and also the opportunity to take care of the proper business within Legco."
Ho said he personally would not stand by and let such antics continue.
"This can't be right. Nobody would allow this sort of thing to continue. And I'm one of those to see this stopped ASAP," he said.
DAB leader Starry Lee, meanwhile, said the pro-democracy is attempting to "occupy" Legco.
"Some members purposely waste the Legislative Council's time. It's so obvious, right? They just want to delay everything proposed by the government. They just want to occupy the council, for the sake of paralysing the government," Lee said.
Alice Mak, from the Federation of Trade Unions, went further, calling on the government to look into whether any of the pan-dems have breached the national security law.
Mak pointed to Article 22 of the law which makes it an offence for anyone to seriously interfere, disrupt, or undermine the performance of duties and functions of the "body of power of the HKSAR".
