About a dozen pro-Beijing protesters gathered outside the Legislative Council complex on Wednesday, calling for the ouster of Civic Passion lawmaker Cheng Chung-tai.

The demonstration came as Legco was due to debate a motion moved by pro-government legislator Paul Tse to censure Cheng, who was found guilty last year of desecrating national and SAR flags. He was fined HK$5,000 by Eastern Magistracy.

Cheng had also said that the conviction effectively made him lose his teaching job at Polytechnic University.

The protesters, from the pro-establishment "Treasure Group", said Cheng had insulted the country by flipping the small replica flags upside down in the Legco chamber.

They submitted a petition to a representative of Legco president Andrew Leung.
