A Security Bureau officer recounted in court on Monday how Democratic Party lawmaker Ted Hui snatched her mobile phone in Legco in April last year, leaving her "shaken" by the incident.

Testifying for the prosecution on the first day of Hui's trial, principal executive officer Leung Ngok-sze told Eastern Court that she and some of her colleagues were asked to take note of lawmakers' whereabouts inside the Legco complex during a debate on immigration arrangements for West Kowloon Station.

She said it was the first day she had carried out this task and she was making a record of the councillors' movements on a spreadsheet on her mobile.

Leung said when Hui saw her outside a Legco conference room, he first asked her who she was and what she was doing.

He then snatched a stack of paper she was holding containing details on lawmakers, including their names, pictures and political backgrounds, she said.

Leung said she was caught off-guard by Hui's actions, and he then went on to grab her phone as well and ran off with it into a men's toilet.

She said she felt helpless and shocked, and was so shaken that she had to leave work early.

Hui denies common assault, obstructing a public officer, and access to a computer with criminal or dishonest intent over the incident on April 24, 2018.
