Kwun Tong Magistracy has adjourned a case involving a Hong Kong man who is alleged to have killed his girlfriend in Taiwan, as the prosecution hinted at additional charges against him.
Chan Tong-kai, 19, was arrested three months ago after he returned alone after going to Taiwan with his girlfriend, 21-year-old Poon Hiu-wing.
Taiwan police found her body dumped near a metro station in New Taipei.
Chan was arrested by SAR authorities for allegedly stealing Poon's belongings and using her ATM card to take money from her bank account. Chan is facing two counts of theft and one count of handling stolen goods.
The prosecution on Thursday asked for more time, saying they may consider more charges against Chan. The court then adjourned the case until July 5.
Taiwan police have contacted local authorities, saying they want to question Chan and requesting his DNA samples to conduct tests after it was found that the murder victim was pregnant. But the lack of any extradition arrangements between Hong Kong and Taiwan has complicated the issue.
