Pro-government lawmaker Ma Fung-kwok has apologised for causing inconvenience to airport security staff, after local media revealed that he had pressured them into allowing him to take a 200-millilitre bottle of hair gel on board a flight to Beijing.

Speaking to reporters after the report came to light, Ma admitted that he had argued with an airport security staff member when he was asked to ditch the product, because the size of the bottle exceeded the maximum amount allowed.

He conceded that he had asked to speak to a senior officer about the matter and during the conversation, he mentioned that the most senior person in the Airport Authority would be its Chief Executive, Fred Lam. But the lawmaker, who represents the Sports, Performing Arts, Culture and Publication sector, stressed he did not intend to put pressure on security staff and that he only wanted to clarify the rules.

Fung also pledged to abide by luggage regulations from now on.
