Gladys Chiu speaks to Damon Pang
The head of RTHK, Leung Ka-wing, has had his contract extended by three years, keeping him at the broadcaster until 2021.
Leung, 65, was first appointed as Director of Broadcasting in August 2015.
The Commerce and Economic Development Bureau said the government had followed established recruitment procedures in extending his deal. The new contract will be effective from August this year.
Through a spokeswoman, Leung said he will strive to improve working conditions at the 90-year-old station, while working hand-in-hand with colleagues as RTHK serves as Hong Kong's public service broadcaster.
However, the chairwoman of RTHK's Programme Staff Union, Gladys Chiu, said Leung's track record did not inspire confidence that he would fight for more resources for the station.
Leung has spent time as a journalist at newspapers and television stations. He was the vice president of news and public affairs at Asia Television for five years until 2011.
