Lam Cheuk-ting talks to RTHK's Janice Wong

Democratic Party lawmaker and North district councillor Lam Cheuk-ting on Monday repeated his call for an inspection of all 300 lifts installed by a contractor who was in charge of maintaining the machines at Paris Court in Sheung Shui.

A 64-year-old was found dead at the bottom of a lift shaft at the estate on Friday. It is believed that her leg got caught between the outer doors of the lift, and she fell into the shaft when the car moved up.

Other lifts at the estate were immediately inspected by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD). The director of the department, Alfred Sit, also said officials will inspect all 90 lifts of the same model across the territory over the next two weeks.

He said he will consider the requests by Lam to inspect all lifts maintained by the contractors.

Lam, who has been helping the family of the victim, said he is disappointed with the director's response.

He said he believes all the lifts maintained by the firm should be inspected as soon as possible for public safety.

Lam said a meeting of residents is to be held on Monday evening at the Sheung Shui housing estate to address their concerns.

He told RTHK's Janice Wong that he hoped EMSD officials will be able to explain the latest situation to residents.
