A nine-member jury has retired to consider whether former Hong Kong Indigenous spokesman Edward Leung and four other defendants are guilty of rioting-related charges for their alleged involvement in the 2016 Lunar New Year clashes in Mong Kok.
High Court judge Anthea Pang said the four male and five female jurors must either reach a unanimous or majority verdict of 8-to-1 or 7-to-2.
Earlier, Pang told the jurors not to be influenced by their own political beliefs or their feelings towards certain people or behaviour.
She said they must consider the case based solely on the evidence and testimonies presented in court.
Leung, 26, denies rioting and inciting others to riot, but earlier pleaded guilty to a separate charge of assaulting police. The other defendants are Lee Nok-man, Lo Kin-man, Lam Ngo-hin and Lam Lun-hing.
