Hundreds of people took to the street of Central on Sunday to show their support for the anti-gun movement in the United States.

The protesters marched from Central Pier to City Hall, carrying placards with messages such as "enough is enough" and "fear has no place in our schools".

The march was in solidarity with the March For Our Lives movement in Washington – a response to a mass shooting at a Florida high school last month which left 17 dead.

Marney Schaumann, one of the organisers of Hong Kong's demonstration, said the participants were adding their voice to the powerful call for tougher gun control laws.

"The poster that I made says 21st century guns with 18th century laws," Schaumann said.

"All the things that people are crying for and dying for: background checks, higher age limits, connection with the mental health system, all these things, they are not extreme. They are not irrational."
