Four newly-elected lawmakers successfully took their oaths of office during a Legislative Council session on Wednesday.
The proceedings went relatively smoothly with Gary Fan from the Neo Democrats, democrat Au Nok-hin, the DAB's Vincent Cheng and pro-establishment Tony Tse reading out their oaths one after the other.
As Au was about to take his oath, Regina Ip and Eunice Yung from the New People's Party chanted "shame on burning the Basic Law", referring to a protest two years ago where Au was seen burning a placard copy of the mini-constitution.
Ip accused Au of lacking integrity, and said she will keep a close watch on him during debates on the proposed express rail joint checkpoint plan and a national anthem law, to see how exactly he will uphold the Basic Law.
“I think it is a shameful act to burn the Basic Law, and then deny it, and then publicly say that I will do it again, and then for the sake of qualifying [for the by-elections], to say that ‘I uphold the Basic Law’. There are a lot of integrity problems with such behaviour”, she said.
Au beat a New People's Party candidate in the polls on March 11 to take the Hong Kong Island seat.
During Wednesday's Legco session, the Land Justice League's Chu Hoi-dick shouted "shame on the DAB for giving out lucky bags" when it was Cheng's turn to take his oath. Chu had accused the DAB of giving out sweeteners to people who voted for Cheng.
