The management company of the Sheung Shui housing block where a woman died in a lift accident says it is considering ending the lift maintenance firm's contract early.

Residents of Paris Court met on Monday night to discuss the death of the 64-year-old woman, whose body was found in a lift shaft on Friday. It is believed her leg got caught between the outer doors of the lift, and she fell into the shaft when the car moved up.

Other lifts at the estate were immediately inspected by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD).

Democratic Party lawmaker Lam Cheuk-ting, who has been helping the victim's family, criticised the lift contractor for refusing to show up.

An official from the EMSD who attended the meeting says the contractor has been ordered to check all 400 lifts it services within a month. The official said his department will then conduct spot checks to make sure no rules have been violated.

The director of EMSD, Alfred Sit, has said officials will inspect all 90 lifts of the same model across the territory.
