Activists belonging to a group named Justice Complaints staged a rally outside police headquarters in Wan Chai on Thursday, to show their approval of the recent arrest of lawmaker Ted Hui.
Late last month, Hui snatched the phone of a government official at the Legislative Council and took it into a men’s toilet. The act was condemned by all major political parties and Hui later apologised for his behaviour.
The protesters said Hui's act was a violent assault. They also said he is unfit to be a legislator and should be barred from accessing confidential information at Legco.
The Democratic Party lawmaker was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of common assault and dishonest access to a computer. He was released on bail after hours of questioning.
Hong Kong First legislator Claudia Mo had blasted the police for the way they arrested Hui, saying it was done in an unnecessarily high-profile manner.
