The organiser of a protest march in Yuen Long on Saturday says the event will go ahead regardless of whether the police grant the letter of no objection required for the assembly to be legal.

Max Chung has made the application on behalf of a group of people who are organising the protest online. He was speaking after a meeting with the police force on the details of the march, including the route.

"Actually this route is the most safe route which we can conduct in Yuen Long," he said. "It's far from villages, except the destination point, and we have created two safety paths for the seniors, for those with infants and for those who are not ready to be beaten up by the terrorists. I believe that I have done my part."

Earlier, the Shap Pat Heung Rural Committee issued a statement asking police not to issue a letter of no objection, stating that the force would "bear all consequences" if the march is allowed to go ahead. It said there were already rumours online of attacks that night.

Mr Chung said he found that message to be threatening, adding: "Any organisation has the right to do anything or say anything. However the statement which was given out by the Shap Pat Heung is very scary. It is fearful."

He said that if he or any other protester was attacked, he would consider it a "terrorist attack".
