Hundreds of people gathered outside the Legislative Council complex on Tuesday night, apparently to protest against the government's extradition proposal as lawmakers resume vetting the bill on Wednesday.
As the night fell, scores of people, mostly youngsters, were pouring into the area outside the Legco complex and Tamar park.
It’s unclear if they were responding to online calls to go for “one-person picnics” at Tamar Park in protest against bill, but the police were not taking any chances.
Pro-democracy activists have also urged people to surround Legco from Wednesday and to remain there in force until lawmakers vote on the extradition bill a week on Thursday.
Many officers have been stationing near Admiralty MTR station and footbridges leading to the area, some carrying shields, batons and helmets.
Some of the people in the area jeered and booed the officers, telling them to leave.
