A 23-year-old man is fighting for his life after his light aircraft crashed into hills in Ma Shi Chau near Tai Po.

The Czechoslovakian Zlin Z42 trainer aircraft hit the hillside around 4.30pm on Sunday. Police say the pilot was conscious when he was taken to hospital.

Witness said they saw the aircraft spiralling down as it approached the hillside and crashed into bushes.

There were no passengers on board.

The Civil Aviation Department is investigating the incident with the Hong Kong Aviation Club.
