The director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, Xia Baolong, will pay a six-day visit to Hong Kong from Thursday.

According to an SAR government statement on Tuesday, Xia will attend the opening ceremony of the city’s National Security Education Day during his stay.

The National Security Education Day is set for Saturday, April 15.

“On behalf of the HKSAR, the Chief Executive, Mr John Lee, extended his warmest welcome and gratitude for Mr Xia's visit,” the statement added.

It said the SAR government will make all necessary arrangements and provide full support to ensure the visit will be smooth.

A senior member of a leading national think tank, meanwhile, said Xia’s visit shows that Hong Kong has returned to normal, and everything has stabilised.

Lau Siu-kai, a consultant to the Chinese Association of Hong Kong and Macau Studies, told RTHK that he believes Xia will be meeting people from various sectors while in the city, in order to learn more about the SAR’s development after the Covid-19 pandemic and help the central authorities formulate policies in relation to Hong Kong.
