  • Xia Baolong briefed on SAR's mega development plans

The head of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, Xia Baolong, on Saturday called for unity in supporting the government's efforts, as he was briefed on two mega projects aimed at boosting land supply in the territory.

On the third day of his inspection visit, the Beijing official met with development secretary Bernadette Linn, who briefed him on the Northern Metropolis project and the plan to build artificial islands off Lantau.

"Director Xia has learnt about the strategic significance and positioning of the Northern Metropolis projects and the Kau Yi Chau artificial islands development. He also said these two projects are related to the well-being of citizens, the development opportunities for the next generation, and the future of Hong Kong," Linn told reporters.

She added that Xia had affirmed government efforts in development, and said he hoped society would come together and support these projects.

Xia also paid his respects at the Wu Kau Tang Martyrs Memorial Garden, before visiting the Heung Yee Kuk Building in the New Territories.

He will visit the Legislative Council Complex on Sunday.
