A logistics centre worker at the Kwai Chung container terminal has died after a large wooden box he was transporting on a plywood cart fell onto him an crushed him.

The worker was injured at about 2pm and taken to Princess Margaret Hospital, where he was declared death.

Police said there were no suspicious circumstance in the case, but the Labour Department has launched an investigation and banned the man's employer from transporting wooden boxes until the probe is complete.

We will complete investigation as soon as possible to identify the cause of the accident, ascertain the liability of the duty holders and recommend improvement measures," a department spokesman said. "We will take actions pursuant to the law if there is any violation of the work safety legislation."
