The Labour Department has expressed its sympathies to the family of a woman who died while working at a plastic recycling yard in Yuen Long on Thursday.
The woman was trapped by the revolving spirals of a plastic crushing machine and certified dead at the scene.
A department spokesperson said: "We commenced immediate on-site investigation as soon as we were notified of the accident and issued suspension notices to the proprietor of the workplace to suspend the operation and repair/maintenance of the plastic crushing machine.
"The proprietor cannot resume the work until the [department] is satisfied that measures to abate the relevant risks have been taken.
"We will complete our investigation as soon as possible to identify the cause of the accident, ascertain the liability of the duty holders and recommend improvement measures. We will take action pursuant to the law if there is any violation of the work safety legislation."
