  • Worker dies after Happy Valley scaffold collapse

A worker has died after being caught up in a scaffolding collapse in Happy Valley on Friday morning.

The woman had been taken to hospital unconscious after being freed from the debris.

Dramatic footage posted online showed a huge wall of scaffolding and netting that had covered a building on Broadwood Road collapse into the street shortly after 10am.

Several other workers and the drivers of two cars trapped under the scaffolding were also rescued by firefighters.

The observatory issued the Black Rainstorm Warning at 11.45am on Friday, and the No 3 Storm Signal was put into effect in the early hours.

Pupils scheduled to attend school in the afternoon were told to stay at home.
