Police said on Thursday they had arrested a 51-year-old woman on suspicion of criminal contempt of court after she apparently took photos inside a courtroom.

Sources told RTHK that nobody actually saw the woman take any photos at the High Court, but she reported herself to court staff.

The alleged photography was said to have happened at around 10am, shortly before a hearing got underway in the courtroom on a drug trafficking case.

The woman arrested is believed to be a Hong Kong ID card holder.

Unlawful photography in the city's courts has made the headlines in recent weeks, with pictures of jurors taken during a Mong Kok riot trial posted to the judiciary.

At the beginning of the month, mainland woman Tang Lin-ling was given a seven-day jail term and ordered to pay court costs of almost HK$200,000 after being found guilty of criminal contempt of court for taking photos during an Occupy protests-related trial.

Tang was later sent back to the mainland, without having paid the legal fees.
