Police have arrested a 44-year-old woman on suspicion of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, after her car rolled backwards down Peel Street in Central injuring eight.
Two of those hurt, both women, were rushed to Queen Mary Hospital in an unconscious state. One has since regained consciousness.
Police say the 44-year-old car driver had just got out of the vehicle - along with a female passenger - when the car rolled away, coming to stop on Staunton Street. They are now investigating whether the car malfunctioned or the whether the handbrake hadn't been properly applied.
The accident happened at about 8 pm, when the area - known for its bars and restaurants - was busy with revellers. Social media footage showed people rushing to the scene and lifting up the damaged car, then dragging at least one person away, who seems to have been trapped.
Police say the other six who were injured - two females and four males - were sent to Queen Mary Hospital and Ruttonjee Hospital in a conscious state. The driver has been detained.
