A former chairwoman of the Bar Association, Winnie Tam, has been appointed as the new chief of the Communications Authority.

She will replace Huen Wong, who resigned last month after he declared he owned shares in China Mobile, raising the possibility of conflict of interest charges.

Tam's appointment is effective from Monday up to March next year, when Wong's term was to end.

The Chief Executive also appointed two new members to the authority. They are business executive Karen Chan and Professor Ray Yep from City University.
