Deputy Secretary for Justice Horace Cheung on Saturday said he will explain with confidence the situation in Hong Kong after the implementation of the national security law, as he heads to Europe for a week-long trip.
He will leave on Sunday to visit several European countries, and attend meetings with three different organisations of private international law headquartered on the continent.
On a radio programme, Cheung said he is well-prepared to explain what has been happening in Hong Kong in the past few years.
"If you have questions, we will answer them. We are confident, so what are we afraid of? We are telling the truth, which of my words is a lie?," Cheung said.
"Has Hong Kong stabilised after the implementation of the national security law? Have the courts always upheld justice, regardless of who's tried, they have a fair trial? Has anyone questioned that the courts are impartial? We are bringing facts [to our visit]," he added.
Cheung also said the administration is planning to have a delegation comprising legal representatives to visit the Greater Bay Area later this year, to foster relationships and facilitate their practices in the region.
On when a decision will be made on the handling of some 6,000 people arrested during the 2019 protests who have not been charged, Cheung said: "I'll leave it to the good hands of the law enforcement agencies."
