Dr May Lam talks to RTHK's Maggie Ho
Police are investigating a suspected case of child abuse after footage of an incident went viral on social media.
A 41-year-old woman was arrested in Shek Kip Mei Estate on Sunday. She's accused of abusing her two young sons.
A psychiatrist specialising in handling child-related cases, Dr May Lam, who's also the director of the Variety Children's Charity, said when people come across a suspected abuse case, they should report it to the relevant authorities.
She said a lot of the time, the parents involved are under stress and it will help them talk to about problems. "As friends and relatives, I think we should talk to the person [the parent] and to get the person to get help," Lam said.
She told RTHK's Maggie Ho that victims of abuse may suffer from long-lasting emotional problems and may also adopt such abusive tendencies against their own children in future.
