The chairman of the Hong Kong Celebrations Association, Cheng Yiu-tong, said on Wednesday that his group is planning an exhibition publicising the Greater Bay Area, a carnival and a gala night at Victoria Park, to celebrate the 21st anniversary of the handover.
The group has been allotted the football pitches at the park that have traditionally been the starting point of the July 1 pro-democracy rally.
That means for the second year in a row, the march organiser, the Civil Human Rights Front, has been denied permission to use the spot.
Cheng also ruled out sharing the area with the march participants, saying “a riot may take place” if they did.
The Civil Human Rights Front has not decided where the starting point of this year's rally will be. They have rejected a police demand for the march to start from the park's lawn area.
