The US has issued a travel advisory for Hong Kong, warning its citizens to exercise increased caution here due to civil unrest.

It warned that protests had spilled over into different neighbourhoods and that - while most were peaceful - some had become confrontational.

It said protests could take place with little or no notice and that they were likely to continue.

Earlier this week, Australia also issued a travel advisory for Hong Kong, citing a risk of violent confrontation.
