Health Secretary Sophia Chan
The Secretary for Health Sophia Chan on Saturday said the government will soon move in to shut private columbaria that did not apply for a licence to operate.
The Private Columbaria Ordinance has now come into effect, and private operators had until the 29th of last month to submit their applications.
Professor Chan said 144 out of 155 private columbaria currently in operation had put in their applications.
She said the 11 operators that did not, need to make sure that the ashes stored at their facilities are properly dealt with.
