The police on Thursday launched an investigation into suspected illegal entry to Hong Kong after a man apparently drowned in waters off Lung Kwu Tan in Tuen Mun and another was reported missing.

The force said it received a report from a 24-year-old woman shortly before 1am that a man she had been swimming with had drowned.

Officers said a 42-year-old man found on a speedboat by the shoreline was certified dead at the scene. A 39-year-old man was said to be missing, while a 36-year-old woman was also on the boat.

Detectives later arrested the younger woman on suspicion of aiding and abetting illegal entry, while the older woman was held for alleged illegal entry.

Rescuers were still looking for the man reported missing.
