The District Court on Thursday jailed two people linked to the pro-independence group "Returning Valiant" for five years under the national security law.

Choi Wing-kit, 21, and 26-year-old Chris Chan were among seven who earlier pleaded guilty to the charge of conspiracy to incite subversion under the security legislation.

Choi was given an extra three months in jail for possessing an offensive weapon.

The court had heard that the defendants made remarks calling on others to topple the government between January and May in 2021.

In sentencing, national security judge, Kwok Wai-kin, said the offences were of a "serious nature".

He said the group had at its street booths repeatedly called for a "bloody revolution", an appeal that could incite others and pose a risk to society.

Kwok also noted that while the defendants faced a conspiracy charge instead of actual subversion, they had continuously committed the offence.

Five others linked to the group were sentenced to detention at a training centre last October.
