Customs officers on Wednesday said a batch of live turtles was among the items seized in an anti-smuggling operation.

They said they confiscated more than 30 carton boxes of smuggled goods worth HK$800,000 in their operation in the eastern waters of Hong Kong.

In addition to the turtles, officers also found pharmaceutical products, mobile phones and some electronic goods.

Officers said they gave chase to two suspicious-looking speedboats off Tung Lung Chau in the operation on Tuesday night.

They intercepted one of the speedboats carrying two men, who jumped into the sea to evade arrest.

The other vessel fled the scene.
