  • Tseung Kwan O death leaves detectives baffled

Police detectives appeared baffled on Tuesday as they grappled over the cause of death of a 21-year-old woman at her home in Tseung Kwan O on Monday evening.

Despite having declared a murder investigation hours after the incident was reported, they now say they can't tell whether she was killed or whether she took her own life. The case has been downgraded to "body found".

There were blood stains in several rooms at the woman's flat in Kwong Ming Court when she found dead by her mother.

Police said the deceased had cuts to the back of her head and they feared she could have been strangled with a plastic cable.

Officers were seen removing bags of evidence from the flat on Monday night.

But despite the wounds and all the blood, the police said on Tuesday it was too soon to be sure whether they were dealing with a murder or not.

At a press briefing, officers said they hadn't found any evidence of a violent struggle in the apartment, or any sign of a break-in.

The police said they would continue to examine the evidence available while they waited for the results of an autopsy.
