TOPPAN Edge is partnering with Partisia to develop a fully privacy-focused digital identity using Partisia’s Decentralised Identity technology. The aim? To enable individuals to securely control their private data.

The collaboration also aims to explore how Partisia Blockchain can scale this further globally and support a secure, user-driven data economy. The partnership purportedly aligns with Japan’s vision for a trusted digital framework and ensures compatibility with Europe’s eIDAS, strengthening regional ties.

Japan’s TOPPAN Edge provides business information management solutions, while Denmark’s Partisia is in Multi-Party Computation (MPC) and advanced cryptography-enforced privacy, using blockchain technology.

TOPPAN Edge will contribute its expertise in access control and hardware solutions. Next, Partisia will provide its Decentralised Identity solution and a platform for activating confidential data.

Together, the partners could empower users to selectively share and verify information from their digital identity wallet, maintaining full privacy and control throughout.

This partnership also seeks to merge individuals’ identities with unique identifiers through Digital Identity Wallets. This integration of human and object identities could reshape digital interactions and data privacy.

Mark Medum Bundgaard, Chief Product Officer at Partisia, shared,

“Together, TOPPAN Edge and Partisia are creating the foundation that will drive a new data economy, where private data can be utilised without compromising confidentiality, integrity, or availability.”

Besides partnering up with TOPPAN Edge on digital identity solutions, TOPPAN Edge and Partisia plan to explore Web3 using Partisia Blockchain, focusing on IoT and Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI). The blockchain platform would be designed to empower users by safeguarding data.

Using the Partisia Platform, TOPPAN Edge could create a whole new market with a platform that enables a new data economy, where private data can be put to work without compromising confidentiality, integrity or availability.

The solution, entirely software-based, could enable individuals to securely control their private data from their mobile devices.

Masatoshi Oka, Senior General Manager of the IT Innovation Division at TOPPAN Edge added, saying that the intention of privacy-focused digital identity is to ensure that privacy is never compromised on all fronts: holder, issuer, or verifier sides.

The Japanese government is apparently collaborating with industry leaders to develop a trusted digital framework. One key initiative, The Trusted Web, purportedly seeks to create secure and decentralised data-sharing structures.
