  • Toddler in intensive care after catching Covid: CHP

Health officials on Monday renewed calls for parents to get their children inoculated against Covid-19, as they reported that another infected toddler had been put in intensive care.

Hospital Authority Chief Manager Lau Ka-hin said the two-year-old boy developed a fever and flu-like symptoms on Friday and on Monday morning he started suffering from shortness of breath.

The boy developed croup – a respiratory infection – and by the afternoon he was in a critical condition in hospital.

In light of the case, Lau again urged parents to get their children jabbed, noting that doctors in paediatric wards at various hospitals had reported an increase in the number of patients suffering from croup.

Hong Kong recorded 4,699 new local Covid cases and 197 imported infections on Monday, along with another four Covid-related deaths.

In total, 1,783 people with Covid were being treated in hospital, nine of them in intensive care.
