A 26-month old girl has died after choking on a grape at home in Tsing Yi on Sunday night.

Ambulance officers arrived around 8.30pm and found the girl already unconscious. She was taken to Princess Margaret Hospital, where she was later certified dead.

It's the second such tragedy in recent months. In January, an eight-year-old primary pupil collapsed in the playground after choking on a cuttlefish ball.

A teacher administered first aid before paramedics arrived. However she later died after 26 days in hospital.

The Department of Health advises parents to avoid feeding young children high-risk foods such fruit with stones or seeds, fish with bones and hard sweets.
