  • Three suspects held over ATM tampering case

Police have arrested three men for allegedly tampering with an ATM to steal user information to withdraw more than HK$200,000.

The suspects carry travel documents from Bulgaria.

Officers said they received a report last month that one of the ATMs inside the East Tsim Sha Tsui Station of MTR had been installed with a magnetic strip reader and a pinhole camera.

Seven people also complained of unauthorised cash withdrawal.

Senior Superintendent Cheng Lai-ki from the Commercial Crime Bureau said only ATMs that are designed to read magnetic strip cards are susceptible, but not those that use chip cards, which is far more common.
