Three police officers have been jailed for 10 weeks over giving false evidence in an alleged drug trafficking case.
Kwun Tong Magistracy heard that Joe Tang, Lee Hin-lai and Ng Shiu-lung had recorded official statements saying that they found drugs after searching a man in Wong Tai Sin three years ago.
But CCTV footage did not back up their version of events, although it showed the suspect throwing something into bushes.
Deputy Magistrate Philip Chan said the case was not the most serious of its kind because the officers did not create a story “out of nothing”.
However, he said a deterrent sentence was still needed as the professional conduct of police officers is very important.
The trio were found guilty of perverting the course of justice. They were released on bail pending an appeal.
