  • Three arrested over incitement, doxxing police

Police said on Friday that they had arrested two men on suspicion of inciting public nuisance by posting messages online calling on people to commit illegal acts.

Another man was also being held for fraud after he allegedly attempted, but failed, to borrow money using the personal data of police officers and their relatives.

Superintendent Swalikh Mohammed, from the cyber security and technology crime bureau, said the suspects are aged between 26 and 39.

He said the three men were arrested over the past three days.

“We have noticed that on social media, there are incitements and very violent type of speeches inciting other people to commit crime, making explosives and using weapons,” he said.

“Some of them are doxxing-related which is to, through unlawful means, get the personal data of police officers and their family members and use it to commit illegal acts, such as using the personal data to make fraudulent applications for loans.”

Mohammed said they had also noticed people posting “radical” messages online to teach others how to make weapons such as explosives and petrol bombs.

He said people, especially young people, shouldn't be “misled” by these messages, as existing laws can also be applied to the cyber world.
