The Secretary for Justice, Teresa Cheng, on Saturday flatly rejected suggestions that she was told to step down by the central government in Beijing.
Speaking after returning to the SAR after a visit to the capital, Cheng reiterated that she would continue to serve the people in a professional, humble, and diligent manner.
She said Beijing is very concerned about the situation in Hong Kong, and the central authorities have been kept abreast of what is happening in the city through the media and other channels.
Cheng said Beijing staunchly supports the Hong Kong government in continuing to serve the people, adding that she hopes everyone can discuss things candidly in order to take the city forward.
