Civic Party lawmaker Tanya Chan is suffering from a life-threatening condition, her lawyer told the court on Wednesday ahead of her sentencing over the 2014 Occupy protests.

The lawyer also submitted details of an MRI scan and a radiologist's report to the judge and said her client needs an urgent operation within two weeks for a brain problem.

The court then adjourned her sentencing until June 10.

Chan later told the media that she will upload something on her Facebook page later on regarding her health condition. She said she doesn't want to distract the focus from the sentencing of eight other Occupy protest figures.

The court soon after adjourned the proceedings for 30 minutes to consider a submission by Tommy Cheung's lawyer of a probation report.

He was the student union leader of CUHK and was 20-years-old during the Occupy protests and is the only one among the nine the judge wanted a probation report on.

Details of the report were later read out in court, and it was recommended that Cheung receive a two-year probation term or a community service order. His lawyer also asked the judge to consider a suspended prison sentence.
